Dimension XR

–

Thanks for playing.

For four years we turned big empty rooms in Tukwila and Port Orchard, Washington, into anywhere you wanted to go.

Both arenas have closed for good, and we no longer run mobile events.

Our story

  1. Dimension XR began as an idea called Reality’s Edge. A COVID resurgence put it on hold before it could open.

  2. We built our first arena ourselves, in a 1,600-square-foot warehouse unit at 811 Industry Dr in Tukwila, a few minutes from Southcenter.

Two people build plywood panels on sawhorses in an empty white warehouse. A grinning selfie in front of a crew painting the walls black, with tarps on the floor. Two people unbox and set up VR blasters and headsets on a table in the warehouse.
    Building it out ourselves.

We opened our doors in June 2022, and on June 24 the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce helped us cut the ribbon.

The idea was simple: put on a headset, walk around a big open room with your friends, and play together in another world. We started with VR laser tag and kept adding games, from zombie defense and co-op archery to a gloriously chaotic burger-cooking game called Cook’d Up.

“We believe that Virtual Reality can be an avenue to experience places, ideas, events, and fun in a healthy and engaging way.”

  3. We moved the Tukwila arena to 909 Industry Dr, more than 6,000 square feet and nearly four times our first space, and built it out all over again.

  4. When the new owners of Town Square Mall in Port Orchard asked us to open a second location, we said yes. The mall’s bare top floor became our second home, with more than 4,500 square feet of VR arenas.

That August we reopened the axe-throwing lanes down the hall as Dimension Axe, so families could split up: kids in VR, grown-ups throwing axes.

  5. Tukwila had its last day on April 25. Port Orchard closed in October, and we stopped taking mobile events.

“About 4 years of adventure, excitement, exhilaration and exhaustion of battling hard technology and tough economics.”

We’re proud of what we built, and grateful to everyone who played with us.

What we built

Players with headsets and blasters spread across the large purple-lit Tukwila arena under strings of lights.

Free-roam VR arenas

Big open rooms where whole groups played untethered in the same virtual world, powered by Spawnpoint. Tukwila grew from 1,600 square feet to more than 6,000, and Port Orchard’s arenas covered more than 4,500.

The lineup grew past 25 games and escape rooms, from LimitlessVR and RE:COIL laser tag to zombie defense, co-op archery and a ninja training simulator.

Axe throwing

Dimension Axe had 14 lanes in Port Orchard, including child-safe lanes for kids 11 and under. Day passes covered axes, VR, pool, air hockey, giant Jenga and giant Connect 4, and you could come and go all day.

Field trips and summer camps

School groups from elementary classes to college students came on field trips, and our operators explained the science behind the headsets.

In summer, kids 8 to 15 joined three-day STEM and game camps in Port Orchard, with weeks on AI, game design, animation and virtual reality.

VR escape rooms
Team puzzles set on space stations, runaway trains, pirate ships and haunted manors.
Birthday parties
Private parties for 6 to 50 guests, with a party room on request.
Corporate team building
Co-op and team games for offices and departments, built around communication and teamwork.
Mobile events
Portable VR for offices, campuses and community events around Western Washington. Clients included Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Delta, the YMCA, Green River College and Highline College.

Thank you.

  • To everyone who played: birthday kids and their parents, students and teachers, couples on date night and coworkers on team-building day. You were the best part of every day.
  • To our staff, who fitted every headset, ran every game and looked after every guest.
  • To Josh Phillips and his team, who ran our Tukwila location through all its ups and downs. Josh’s incredible leadership guided business operations at both locations, and his vision shaped our branding, our facility design and our standout marketing campaigns.
  • To Varun Siddaraju, who managed our Port Orchard location in its early days.
  • To Jason Gumpert, who saw Port Orchard through its final year and helped us close up shop one last time.
  • To our partners: Spawnpoint and LimitlessVR, the owners of Town Square Mall, the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce, and every company, school and community group that invited us to their events.
  • To Tukwila and Port Orchard, and to King and Kitsap counties, for making room for something new.
